LOBOS RECOVER FROM LAST WEEK WITH 54-26 WIN OVER REL
LONGVIEW - Longview broke it open over the final two quarters to bounce back in its second District 11-6A game.

After a 19-13 lead at halftime, the Lobos put up 35 second-half points to take a 54-26 win over Tyler Lee on Friday night at Lobo Stadium.

A'Darius Carter scored five rushing touchdowns, all coming in a special package for the 6-4, 205-pounder at quarterback, as Longview bounced back from a 11-6A-opening loss to Mesquite Horn a week ago.

"Great effort from our team tonight and I'm proud of the players and coaches because it's been a tough week but we responded and bounced back and found a way to win this ballgame," Longview head coach John King said. "It was a great overall team win."

Carter finished with nine carries for 85 yards and had a 20-yard catch from Sophomore Haynes King, who started his first game at quarterback.

"That's what we see every day from AC," King said. "He's a great competitor and will do anything we ask him to do.

"He wants to win."

Longview moves to 4-1 on the season heading into a road trip to Rockwall next week. The YellowJackets fell to Rockwall-Heath, 28-27, on Friday night. Lee drops to 3-2 on the season and 0-2 in 11-6A action.

Keilyn Williams added 99 rushing yards and Jaquan Edwards finished with 98 for the Lobos, who finished with 304 yards on the ground a week. Williams added two fourth-quarter scores on runs of five and 10 yards.

"They ran extremely hard and the ball security was good" King said. "They made the most of every opportunity.

"I thought the line did well at times at creating a crease and they were able to hit it."

Chris Kessler connected on a career-best 46-yard field goal to round out the scoring for the Lobos.

Defensively, Longview held Lee to 4-for-14 on third down and held the Red Raiders to four yards per carry. Lee finished with 355 total yards on the night, 210 coming in the first half.

Defensive lineman Daydrian Wells picked off a pass at the line. JC Blakemore forced a fumble on a sack, which was scooped up by Ja'Vontae Writt. Jalen Carr returned a Lee point-after attempt to the house, adding two points the Lobos' scoreboard.

"The secondary played a great game tonight and broke up several passes," King said. "We got great pressure up front and that helps those guys in the back."

Longview forced two-first half turnovers which led to empty possessions for the offense. Lee had a chance to go ahead on a double pass before Carr scooped up a bad snap and housed it for a 16-13 Longview lead.

Kessler's field goal with 0.3 seconds on the scoreboard made it 19-13 at halftime.

In the second, Longview turned to the ground with a heavy dose of Williams and Edwards with Carter notching three third-quarter scores. Longview attempted two pass attempts over the final two stanzas.

"We felt like we needed to run the ball a little more and committed to it," King said. "Coming out and scoring on the opening drive was big as well."

King connected with Jaylin Brown twice and Jacob Johnson once on the opening drive, setting up Carter's first score.

Lee quarterback Chance Amie tied it 7-7 with 10:31 left in the second quarter before Carter rumbled for a 38-yard TD.

Longview broke it open on two scores, both Carter touchdowns, on eight plays to start the third quarter around a Lee three-and-out to build 33-13 lead with 8:01 left in the third quarter.
