LOBOS STRUGGLE AT HORN IN 52-34 LOSS
MESQUITE - Longview knew Mesquite Horn brought a potent offensive attack to the table.

The Jaguars did just that Friday night but a dismal showing in all-three phases from the Lobos only added fuel to that fire.

Horn quarterback Jermaine Givens rolled up 442 yards of total offense the Lobos turned the ball over six times as the Jaguars took a 52-34 win over Longview in the District 11-6A opener at Hanby Stadium in Mesquite.

Longview drops its season mark to 3-1 on the season.

"We didn't play well from turnovers to poor tackling to the onside kick, you name it," Longview head coach John King said. "Mesquite Horn is a good football team and Givens is a talent.

"We've got to go upwards. We've got to go back to the drawing board and the kids will work hard but we've got to play better, we've got to coach better and we've got to execute better."

Horn finished with 549 yards of offense in the win and scored 38 unanswered points in a five-turnover first half for the Longview. The Jaguars out-gained Longview 388 to 128 through the first 24 minutes.

Givens finished 20-for-33 with an interception for 335 yards through the air with a 66-yard touchdown pass. He added three scores on the ground, totaling 107 yards on 14 carries.

Maureese Wren hauled in 12 passes for 202 yards, including the 66-yard touchdown pass.

Longview finished with 94 rushing yards on 25 attempts. Senior offensive lineman Donovan Brooks went out late in the first quarter, making three Lobo starters out on the line this season due to injury.

Jordan Lawson got the start at quarterback for the Lobos for the third game this season and went back-and-forth with Sophomore Haynes King 10 times in the first half.

King finished 13-for-29 for 252 yards and three-second half touchdowns for Longview. He had an interception in the first half and added a second in the fourth quarter. Lawson went 1-for-4 for 18 yards with a pick.

Kamden Perry finished with five catches for 79 yards. Williams had two for 75 yards, including a 44-yard touchdown pass. Jaylin Brown added a six-yard scoring catch as well.

Longview lost three fumbles on the ground, one leading to a four-yard scoop and score for the Jaguars, who built a 45-13 lead at halftime after trailing with 4:35 left in the first quarter.

Horn went three-and-out to start the game, punting from its own three. Longview took the short field with Edwards punching in a five-yard score.

On their second possession, Horn coughed up its lone fumble before the Lobos gave it right back, leading to a Jaguar touchdown and a 7-7 tie.

Longview took its last and final lead on the next possession with Williams punching in a one-yard score after King found Perry for 38 yards.

Longview's next possessions went punt, interception, fumble, fumble, punt, punt, interception into halftime.

Longview returns home to host Tyler Lee on Friday.
