RED ZONE TURNOVER GIVES BRUINS 34-33 WIN
BEAUMONT - A long drive turned into a short trip Friday night for the Longview Lobos.

Up by six with under four minutes to play, a red zone turnover from the Lobos led to Beaumont West Brook's first lead of the night, enough for a 34-33 win from the host Bruins in a Class 6A, Division II, Region II bi-district playoff at the Thomas Center.

Longview's season concludes at 8-3, snapping a string of 10-straight bi-district wins for the Lobos. West Brook, now 10-1 on the season, advances to meet Lakeview in the area round.

After the go-ahead score, coming off the 10th lost fumble of the season for the Lobos, Longview took possession and marched the field quickly before a 47-yard field goal went wide left.

West Brook found a way to extend drives throughout the night, finishing 5-for-5 on fourth down, including a fourth-and-six and the Longview 40 inside the final two minutes.

After a 14-14 tie at halftime, Longview built a 10-point lead twice in a 17-point third quarter. West Brook pulled to within six with 8:26 left in the fourth quarter.

Starting at its own 44, up 33-27, Longview went on a march to extend its lead before a fumble at the 10 gave the Bruins the ball with 3:29 showing. It resulted in the eighth touchdown off a Longview turnover this season.

Longview finished with 362 rushing yards, led by a 161-yard night from D'Crayvan Polk, the bulk coming on third-down touchdown runs of 56 and 59 yards. Kendrevian White finished with 98 yards and with an eight-yard touchdown. Sophomore Jessie Anderson totaled 45 yards and with a one-yard score.

Gaylon Wiley went 5-for-7 for 53 yards and added 40 more on the ground.

For West Brook, who finished 3-for-10 on third down, Sophomore quarterback L'Ravien Elia went 13-for-14 through the air for 154 yards and added 58 rushing yards with a 12-yard score. Joel Denley led the rushing attack, gaining 140 yards on 24 attempts with three scores.

Wide receiver Kandin Robertson hauled in six passes for 127 yards, including the fourth-and-six conversion for 32 yards and took a tip for an 11-yard, eventual game-winning score.

Both teams exchanged touchdowns to start on the first four possessions of the night.

White capped a methodical 10-play, 73-yard march with an eight-yard run to put Longview up, 7-0, at the 7:32 mark in the first quarter.

West Brook responded quickly, using a trick play on the first snap, and culminating with a four-yard score from Denley.

Longview then marched for 6:07, converting a fourth down of its own, with Anderson punching in the 14th play of the drive for a 14-7 Lobo lead.

Denley converted and fourth and short - picking up 28 yards in the process - before Elia knotted it 14-14 with a 12-yard run for a 14-14 tie, a score than held up until halftime.

The Lobo defense held West Brook to consecutive three-and-outs to start the second half while Polk raced up the gut for 56 yards for a 21-14 Longview lead.

KeAndre Mauldin had a tackle for loss to force a punt before Chris Kessler extended Longview's lead to 24-14 on a 26-yard field goal with 3:27 left in the third quarter.

West Brook converted a third-and-10 with Denley hitting the trifecta on a four-yard run. The ensuing point-after attempt was blocked by Longview and Roshodrick Harmon took it 80 yards to paydirt for a 33-27 Longview lead.

Longview chewed over four minutes off the clock before its lone turnover of the night set up the trio of Elia, Denley and Robertson for a game-winning drive.
