CUJO BUILDS ON LEAD EN ROUTE TO 38-24 WIN
LONGVIEW - Down by 11 with the ball coming back on the other side of intermission, Longview coughed up its lone turnover of the night heading into the end zone.

Against an explosive John Tyler offense, it was a crucial miscue in a game where playing catch-up would be an uphill task.

With 17 unanswered points in the second half, John Tyler built on its lead en route to a 38-24 win over Longview in a pivotal District 11-6A clash at Lobo Stadium.

Heading into the final two weeks of the season, John Tyler pulled even with Longview at 4-1 in the district race, handing the Lobos' its first home district loss since 2003 and the first under head coach John King.

John Tyler put up 558 yards of total offense, outgaining the Lobos by 203 total yards.

Houston commit and John Tyler quarterback Bryson Smith accounted for 329 yards of the Lions' offensive numbers. He finished with two passing touchdowns in a 235-yard night though the air.

Sophomore running back Cameron Grant totaled 200 yards and two scores on 22 carries, garnering Great American Rivalry Series MVP honors.

For Longview, quarterback Gaylon Wiley surpassed the 1,000-yard mark through the air on the season, throwing for 193 yards and two touchdowns.

Kendrevian White saw the bulk of the action at running back for the Lobos, picking up 122 yards on 18 carries with a four-yard touchdown.

Fullback Trajan Bush hauled in a 37-yard touchdown and tight end Jaylin Brown had his fourth touchdown reception in five catches on a late 71-yard catch-and-run.

Longview finished 1-for-7 on third down, picking up its first conversion midway through the third quarter. Meanwhile, John Tyler extended drives throughout, converting nine of its 14 third downs.

The Lion defense held the Lobos to five yards per carry and 21 total snaps in the second half while Smith and the John Tyler offense had 36 carries.

Grant and the Lion offense got going on the fourth snap as the Sophomore raced 64 yards to paydirt for a quick 7-0 lead.

After a first down, the Lobos punted its first possession from midfield.

The Lobo defense responded by forcing a long John Tyler field goal attempt.

Six plays later, the Lobos tied it 7-7 when Wiley hit Bush for a 37-yard score with 3:21 left in the first quarter.

John Tyler converted a third and fourth down on the ensuing drive before Smith hit Texas commit Damion Miller for seven-yard score on third down.

Longview converted a fourth down at its own 33 before the Lion defense held the Lobos to a Chris Kessler 42-yard field goal.

Grant had a 26-yard run and, on third-and-11, Smith found Michael Givens-Washington for a 22-yard score, putting the Lions up, 21-10, with 5:40 left until the break.

After a 50-yard kickoff return from Jaquan Edwards, Longview had second-and-1 from the two before coughing up the ball - its eighth lost fumble of the season - to send John Tyler to halftime with the 11-point lead.

White ripped a 37-yard run on the first snap of the second half, setting up his four-yard score as the Lobos pulled to within four points with 9:24 left in the third quarter.

John Tyler went on a 12-play, 67-yard march, capped with a 38-yard field goal from Devan Salazar.

Longview then punted on its next three possessions.

Longview then went three-and-out for the first time of the night.

Smith and Miller hooked up on a 37-yard pass and Martrevious Allison made it a 38-17 lead with 2:58 left.

Wiley hit Brown, who turned the catch into a 71-yard touchdown with 2:12 left.

John Tyler converted a fourth down to send the Lions into victory formation at Lobo Stadium.

Longview visits Rockwall-Heath next while John Tyler hosts Mesquite Horn.
