LOBOS GRAB ROAD WIN OVER NORTH, 49-35
MESQUITE - Longview tight end Jaylin Brown entered the night with five catches and three touchdowns on the season.

He kept the ratio a good one on Friday night.

The junior hauled in three catches, all resulting in touchdowns, and the Lobo defense turned in nine points in a 49-35 win over North Mesquite in District 11-6A action at Mesquite's Memorial Stadium.

With the win, the Lobos (5-1) remain the lone 11-6A squad with an unblemished mark at 4-0, setting up a pivotal showdown with John Tyler (3-1) next week at Lobo Stadium. North Mesquite falls to 3-4 overall and 2-2 in district action.

"Maybe we need to throw him the ball https://lobohistory.com," Longview head coach John King said of Brown. "We felt like the boot pass would be a good thing for us to run and we were able to sneak a few through to him. Gaylon (Wiley) found him and Jaylin made some great runs after the catch with some help down field.

"Tonight was his night."

The Lobo defense got in on the scoring action as well with senior Ke'Undre Wilson taking the fourth snap of the night to the house for a 38-yard pick six. Kyle Johnson delivered a sack in the end zone and Jason Bush scooped up a fumble forced by Traveion Webster.

Wiley finished 8-for-13 with an interception for 130 yards and the three scoring strikes to Brown, totaling 80 yards.

It was running-back by committee for the Lobos with Kendrevian White leading the way with 112 yards on 18 carries. D'Crayvan Polk followed with 96 yards and a 10-yard touchdown. Fullback Trajan Bush totaled 59 yards and Sophomore Jessie Anderson had 47 yards.

Wiley made it a four-touchdown night with a one-yard punch in on the ground.

Chris Kessler connected on field goals of 26 and 22 yards and had a season-best 48-yard punt.

North Mesquite used the big play throughout the night with scoring snaps of 60, 58 and 24 yards, finishing with a total 452 yards, 262 coming in the first half. The Stallions scored three times in the second half on 10 total snaps.

Wilson's interception return put the Lobos ahead at the 11:03 mark in the first quarter.

After a North Mesquite punt, Wiley was picked off on a deep ball, setting up Stallion quarterback Ja'Quez Gooch's seven-yard run for a 7-7 tie.

White's first carry went for 29 yards, Wiley converted and third-and-nine with a keeper and Polk punched in a 10-yard score for a 14-7 Lobo lead after the first quarter.

The Lobo defense forced a turnover on downs to start the second and Wiley and Brown connected for the first time on a 32-yard catch-and-run.

Pinned at its own seven, Johnson sacked Gooch in the end zone for the second safety of the season for the Lobo defense.

Bush ripped a 25-yard run and Wiley punched in the touchdown off the short field for a 29-7 Longview lead with 4:15 left until halftime.

Dreshawn Minnieweather made it 29-14 on a four-yard run before Wiley and Brown hooked up for the second time on a 28-yard scoring pass for a 36-14 Longview lead at halftime.

The Lobos started flat in the second half with a three-and-out and Minnieweather broke a 60-yard run with 9:01 left in the third quarter.

A long Lobo drive fizzled inside the 10 and Kessler made it 39-31 to cap a 7:11 drive.

On the next possession, Webster delivered the hit and Bush scooped it, giving the Lobos the ball and the plus-34. Four plays later, it was a hat trick for Wiley to Brown on a 20-yard score.

Kessler had a 26-yard score around two quick Stallion touchdowns before Anderson converted a pair of third downs on the ground to send the Lobos into victory formation.
