LOBOS WIN BACK AND FORTH BATTLE WITH ROCKWALL
LONGVIEW - Longview and Rockwall went toe-to-toe in first half, exchanging score after score.

In the second half, the momentum, if possible, swung even faster.

But the final swing fell in favor of the Lobos in a wild 36-29 win over Rockwall in a pivotal District 11-6A contest at Lobo Stadium.

With the win, the Lobos enter the district's bye as the district's lone unbeaten team in 11-6A play at 3-0. Rockwall falls to 1-4 overall and 1-2 in league play.

After a 21-21 tie at halftime, the Lobos built a 30-21 lead with 10 minutes left. Rockwall then went on a long drive, converting two fourth downs - one on a fake punt - and, following a two-point conversion, pulled to within a point (30-29) with 6:19 left.

The Lobos followed with its second lost fumble of the night, setting up the Yellowjackets at the Lobo 40. After two big stops, Sophomore safety Jephaniah Lister snuffed out a Rockwall screen pass on fourth-and-short, setting up a Longview touchdown to go ahead, 36-29, with 2:57 left.

The Lobo defense followed that with its second-straight turnover on downs.

D'Crayvan Polk rushed for 163 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown and hauled in three passes for 37 yards to pace the Lobo offense. Kendrevian White hit paydirt three times and tacked on 123 yards for the Lobos, who finished with 327 rushing yards.

Gaylon Wiley finished the night 9-for-16 passing, targeting six receivers for 135 yards, including a scoring pass to tight end Ke'Andre Mauldin.

Defensively for the Lobos, Traveion Webster and Mauldin pulled down interceptions. Roshodrick Harmon and the Lobo secondary held the Yellowjacket offense to 116 passing yards on the night.

D'Marjai Dearion had a sack on the opening possession, which resulted in a three-and-out to start for Rockwall.

The Lobos answered with an eight-play, 77-yard march - highlighted by 42-yard run from Polk and capped with a one-yard punch in from White.

The next five possessions combined resulted in touchdowns.

Allison Strange scored his first of four touchdowns on the night to tie it 7-7.

Trajan Bush broke an 18-yard run and Wiley hit Mauldin in the end zone on a 12-yard score for a 14-7 Lobo lead.

Rockwall standout receiver Sam Crawford made a highlight-reel catch to set up Rockwall's answer, a 16-yard jaunt from Strange for a 14-14 tie.

With three-straight completions from Wiley, Polk put the Lobos ahead once again with a 35-yard scoring streak down the sidlelines.

The Yellowjackets then showed their ground-and-pound ability with a 14-play, 81-yard drive that chewed 5:20 off the play clock with Strange's third touchdown making it 21-21 at halftime.

Longview converted a fourth down in its own territory to open the second half before the drive stalled at its own 44.

Rockwall went to work before Mauldin hauled in a tipped ball, setting the Lobos up near midfield.

After a 39-yard completion from Wiley to Eric Timberlake, the Yellowjacket defense stood up the Lobos on four-straight rushing attempts inside the five for a turnover on downs, the Lobos' first of the season.

The next play, the Lobo defense dropped the Rockwall rusher in the backfield for a safety and a 23-21 lead.

After a Lobo punt, Webster pulled down his second interception of the season and, following an 18-yard return, set up White's second score on 17 yards with 10 minutes remaining, setting up a wild finish at Lobo Stadium.

District 11-6A is idle on Friday.
