LOBOS CLINCH 15TH STRAIGHT PLAYOFF BERTH
LONGVIEW - For the 15th-straight season, the Longview Lobos are headed to the postseason.

The clinching win got started on the first play of the night.

Tylan Miller bolted for a long score on the first snap of the game as Longview rolled to a 48-10 win over Sulphur Springs on Senior Night at Lobo Stadium.

With the win, Longview improves to 7-2 on the season and 5-1 in district action. Sulphur Springs enters the final contest of the season at 0-9 and 0-6 in the district loop.

"That's always a goal and it was good to get that locked down tonight," Longview head coach John King said. "There's things you take for granted and clinching a postseason berth isn't one of them. It's a guaranteed extra game and a time where special things can happen.

"To do it 15 straight times is quite an accomplishment for any program."

Before the contest, with the rain clearing, the Lobos honored 45 seniors.

"It's always an emotional time and tonight was no different," King said. "Those guys were fired up to be home and come out here one last time. We're proud to honor these men and women that have been with us for so long.

"They've developed into fine players and trainers on and off the field."

The Lobos rolled up 360 yards on the ground, led by a 130-yard, two-touchdown night from Braylynn Anthony. The senior speedster had six touches with two going to the house on runs of 37 and 61 yards.

Miller finished with 78 yards on two carries, including a 59-yard score, and Austin Moore tallied 88 yards on five touches, scoring on a two-yard romp.

"The offensive line had a solid night," King said. "There were some big holes for those guys to run through."

Michael Ross tossed for 86 yards, including a 15-yard scoring pass to tight end Jordan Wyatt, who leads the Lobos this season in receptions with 12 catches for 301 yards and five touchdowns.

Cody Jenkins connected on field goals of 30 and 37 yards, giving him a 6-for-7 mark on the season.

"Cody has been solid throughout the season and especially tonight in these conditions," King said. "Overall, our special teams play was solid."

Defensively, the Lobos held a young Sulphur Springs squad to negative two rushing yards. While the Wildcats leaned heavily on the screen game, AmeronDean pulled down his third and fourth interceptions of the season - the second going 54 yards to the house for the Lobos.

After Miller's 59-yard score to begin the night, Sulphur Springs started strong, converting three third downs as they marched to the Lobo 26 where the drive stalled and resulted in a 34-yard field goal from Julio Robles.

Ross hit Moore for 20 yards, Miller picked up 19 up the middle before Ross, on a bootleg pass to his left, hit Wyatt for the 15-yard score to put the Lobos up 14-3 with 3:19 left in the first quarter.

Bryan Gilliland had a tackle for loss to send the Lobo offense back on the field quickly. Ross connected with Jon Sorey for 14 yards and Anthony got his night going with runs of 19 and 37 yards, the second ending in the end zone for a 21-3 Longview lead after the first quarter.

Dean pulled down his first pick of the night on the ensuing Wildcat possession, setting up a 30-yard boot from Jenkins.

Bryson Davis had a sack for the Lobos, forcing a Wildcat punt and on the next Longview snap, Anthony hit the jets for a 61-yard score.

A fourth-and-two stop by the Lobo defense set up Jenkins' second field goal of the night to send the game to halftime with a 34-3 Longview lead.

Dean took a tipped ball on the first snap of the second half 54 yards to the house.

Ross hit Chris Braggs on passes of nine and 28 yards to set up Moore's two-yard score to end the Lobo scoring with 5:25 left in the third quarter.

Sulphur Springs hit the end zone with 8:26 left on a 34-yard pass from Sophomore quarterback Ryan Humphries, who finished 19-for-36 for 174 yards, to Sophomore wideout Tiesan Goodson, who led the Wildcats with 57 receiving yards.

The Lobos close out the season with a trip to Hallsville next week while Sulphur Springs visits Marshall.

"It's a big game for us seeding-wise against a quality opponent in a hot Hallsville team," King said. "We've got to win out to clinch the top seed and a share of the district title.

"It's going to be a good one in Hallsville."
