| LONGVIEW - It was another night of a total-team performance and another night of continued improvement for the Lobos.
Behind an efficient offensive output and a shutdown defensive showing, Longview notched its third-straight win, rolling past Greenville, 56-7, in front of a homecoming crowd at Lobo Stadium on Friday night. The win pushes Longview to 3-2 on the season and 2-0 in district action. Greenville sits at 3-2 overall as well and 1-1 in 15-5A. "I thought we played well in all three phases tonight," Longview head coach John King said. "We've continued to improve. We're not as beat up as we were early on, people are settling in and things are starting to gel a little bit." The Lobos out-gained Greenville 409 to 104 in total yards on the night - 74 of that coming on the Lions' lone score of the evening. The Lobos scored on five of their first six possessions with a pick six from Ameron Dean mixed in to build a dominant 49-0 lead at halftime. Greenville finished with first half with 19 total yards - six on the ground. "We were very disruptive up front defensively," King said. "With it being a 7-0 game, the interception return got us steamrolling. It was a big play on Ameron's part with that started up front with the pressure." Offensively, it was an efficient night. Quarterback Dezmond Chumley 8-for-12 for 100 yards and a touchdown - all coming in the first half. Four different Lobo backs found the end zone with Tylan Miller and D'Crayvan Polk each scoring twice. Miller finished with 73 yards of total offense while Polk added 37 yards on five touches. Traveion Webster led the ground attack, finished with 85 yards and a six-yard score. Aside from Dean's interception return, Karbohn McAdoo forced a fumble that was recovered by Marco Gonzalez. Jaylon Jackson finished with two stops behind the line of scrimmage in the first half. A second-effort run from Miller put the Lobos on the board on their opening drive from four yards away. Greenville got the ball and recorded its lone two first downs of the contest before back-to-back tackles for loss from Jackson and Gonzalez forced the Lions to punt for the first of nine times. Chumley went out briefly on the next possession, leading to the Lobos' lone punt of the first half before Dean housed an interception from 45 yards away for the Lobos' second-straight contest with a defensive touch. The rout was on after that. McAdoo barreled through the line, forcing a fumble and Miller scored two plays later from 25 yards away to give Longview a 21-0 lead with 1:59 left in the opening stanza. Khalil Williams got a hand on a Greenville punt on the ensuing possession, giving the Lobos a short field as they had throughout the night. Chumley hit Antonio Carter for a 20-yard score with 18 ticks left in the first quarter. Carter finished with seven catches for 65 yards. Chumley completed his last pass of the night with over nine minutes left in the second quarter on a nine-yard strike to Emmanuel Gordon, setting up a one-yard Marquies Hunter score. Polk added scores of eight and six yards around a pair of three-and-outs from Greenville, giving the Lobos the 49-0 lead at the break. Greenville got on the board midway through the third quarter on a 74-yard pass from Jacob Jarvis to D'Erren Wilson. Webster capped a 78-yard second half with a six-yard score early in the fourth quarter for the 56-7 final. With back-to-back dominating wins, the Lobos turn their attention to Marshall, which visits Lobo Stadium next Friday for the team's 104th meeting. "It's a big one from here on out," King said. "If you're looking at a playoff berth and possible district championship, you can't slip and you've got to continue to improve." |
