LOBOS CRUISE PAST STALLIONS, 37-22
MESQUITE - For the 13th consecutive season, the postseason will include the Longview Lobos.

Longview used a 27-point second quarter to get ahead early and cruise to a 37-22 win over North Mesquite on Friday night at Memorial Stadium in Mesquite.

The win - Longview's seventh-straight - seals up a postseason appearance for the Lobos as well as giving them the number-one seed of out Division II in District 12-5A.

Dezmond Chumley completed 15 of his 24 pass attempts for 226 yards and four touchdowns. L'darrius Peterson turned in his second-straight game with over 100 yards on the ground while Andres Perez had field goals of 43, 35 and 22 yards for the Lobos.

Dorian Leonard - who was questionable due to a family issue - hauled in six catches for 103 yards, including scoring receptions of 30 and 23.

North Mesquite took the opening possession 73 yards but the Stallions' drive stalled at the Longview five-yard line. Berumen split the uprights from 22 yards out to put North Mesquite on the board first with 7:04 left in the first.

Andres Perez sparked a 27-point second quarter for Longview with a back-to-back field goals from 43 and 35 yards out, respectively.

After consecutive incompletions to start the second quarter, Chumley hit six out of his next seven attempts, three resulting in touchdowns with four being more than 20 yards.

After Perez' second field goal of the second stanza, North Mesquite lost the ensuing kickoff, setting up Longview inside North Mesquite territory for the first of three consecutive possessions.

Leonard pulled down a 23-yard pass to give Longview a 13-3 lead. The Lobo defense then held North Mesquite to its third three-and-out of the first half. Travin Howard returned the following put 30 yards and Longview was in the end zone for the second time in just over a minute off the game clock with Chumley connecting with Melvin Gouldsby for a 30-yard score.

Stephon Anthony grabbed a 37-yard catch on the Lobos' next possession, giving Longview a 27-3 lead in the waning minutes of the first half.

North Mesquite quarterback Cody Williams went to the turf on the Stallions' final play off the first half, requiring medical attention. After a 15-yard penalty, Berumen drained a 48-yard field goal for a 27-6 score at the break.

Berumen drained his third field goal of the night from 20 yards away early in the third quarter.

Chumley and Leonard responded quickly, connecting from 30 yards away to give Longview a 34-9 lead.

Ta'Varius Luke put North Mesquite in the end zone for the first time with 11 second left in the third stanza. Luke led all rushers with 126 yards on 15 touches.

Perez added a 27-yard field goal before North Mesquite's Shateek Nasir found Kayveon Brown for a 34-yard score with 47 seconds left to for the 37-22 final.

Longview hosts Tyler Lee on Thursday while North Mesquite travels to Rockwall-Heath.
