| LONGVIEW - Handicapped by a sloppy field and suffering under erratic and apparently biased refereeing, the Longview Loboes struggled through four scoreless quarters to tie the Centenary Junior Gents here Friday.
Records of the game deny the score which showed that the two teams were evenly matched. Longview made three first downs to none for the visitors, and came within 13 yards of the scoring line at one time. An attempted place kick was wide and the opportunity never presented itself again. The Gents out punted the locals and were supreme in that department of the fracas. Lamair of Shreveport was the referee with Harrison of the University of Chicago umpire and Sides head linesman. Attendance was light due to the inclement weather prevailing throughout the day. In the first quarter, Centenary kicks off to Longview's 20-yard line and Longview punts to start the game. Balter gains a yard through the line and then takes another the same way. Welch goes through tackle for a yard and Balter punts to Wilson on Longview 30-yard line. Fenton makes a bad punt to the 40-yard line and Cameron comes back to the 20-yard line before he is stopped. Cameron fumbles and Longview recovers. Fenton punts to the Freshmen's 42-yard line. Welch punts to Longview's 10-yard line. Longview's ball on their 10-yard marker. Fenton punts to Cameron on Longview's 40-yard line. Brown makes 2 yards around right end, Tiner fumbles and loses 6 yards and Weigh punts out on Longview's 20-yard line. Fenton punts to Cameron on the 50-yard line and he comes back to the 30-yard dent. Brown makes 4 yards around right end. Welch loses a yard on an end play. Brown takes a couple through tackle. Welch punts out on Longview's 20-yard line and in return Adams punts to the 50-yard line and rolls out to the 52-yard marker. Cameron fumbles and loses 10 yards. Welch punts to Knox on the 30-yard line. O'Brien goes in for Cameron as the quarter ends. In the second quarter, Longview's ball on their 12-yard line. Fenton punts to Longview's 42-yard marker. Brown tries to punt but it is blocked and Longview recovers. Longview fumbles and Centenary recovers the ball. O'Brien goes around right end for a yard. Brown takes 2 yards around left end and Welch punts to the 45-yard line and it is Longview's ball. Fenton hits the line for 2 yards. Fenton punts to O'Brien on the 45-yard line and he returns to the 40-yard line. Brown makes a yard around right end. W. Meredith, Longview, goes in for (unreadable). A pass from Brown to Hill is intercepted by McCreary. Longview tries for a pass but it is knocked and Adams punts behind the line. Freshmen's ball on the 20-yard line. Welch punts to Adams on Longview's 20-yard line. Adams punts to O'Brien on Centenary's 40-yard line. O'Brien punts to Adams on 30-yard line. Adams punts to Tiner on the 50-yard line and he is stopped by Fenton after returning 5 yards. O'Brien makes a yard around the end. Welch goes through enter for 4 more and Brown loses a yard as the half ends. In the third quarter, Longview kicks off to O'Brien on the 30-yard line and he return 10 yards. Freshmen's ball on their 40-yard line. O'Brien makes a yard around right end. Fenton of Longview intercepts a pass and it is Longview's ball on their 42-yard line. Adam punts behind the line. Centenary's ball on the 20-yard marker. Brown tries the line but fails and Welch punts to the center of the field. Ross makes a yard through the line and the Freshmen were penalized for off side. P. Meredith makes 2 yards through center. Knox goes the same route for 2 more and the first, first down of the game. P. Meredith another yard through center. Owings goes in for Boring. Longview penalized for holding, they try a pass but it is no good and Ross kicks from placement from the 50-yard line but is short. Cameron receives the ball on the kick and comes back 30 yards before he is stopped. Freshmen's ball on the 40-line. Tiner makes 7 yards around right end. Brown makes a yard off tackle and Tines loses 10 yards as the quarter ends. In the fourth quarter, Welch's punt is blocked and it is the Loboes' ball on the Frosh's 30-yard line. Longview is penalized 15 yards and then Brown of the Freshmen intercepts a pass. Brown fumbles and loses 10 yards. Centenary tries for a pass and it is knocked down. Welh punts to Adams on the 40-yard line and he returns 10 yards. Loboes' ball on the 30-yard line. Knox heaves on to MeCreary for 8 yards. They try for another pass but it is no good. Loboes try for another pass and Centenary interferes and are penalized. MCreary goes in for Owings, Ray for Glover, and Williams for Killingsworth. Longview's ball on the 30-yard line. McCreary makes 5 yards off tackle and then goes around left end for 9 yards and a first down. McCreary makes 3 yards on end play. Harper goes in for Fenton. Ray goes 7 yards and another first down. Ross makes 3 yards around left end. McCreary tries for a kick from placement from the 13-yard line but fails. Brown returns the ball to the 9-yard line and the Loboes are penalized 10 yards. Cameron punts to McCreary on the 45-yard line and he returns 5 yards before he is stopped. Ross makes a yard and is forced out. McCreary fumbles and loses 3 yards. Ross tries one overhead but it is knocked down as the game ends. |
